Patent Attorney Marc Richards To Speak on PTAB Appeals at PTAB Bar Association Inaugural Conference
February 09, 2017

CHICAGO—Marc V. Richards, a shareholder and patent attorney at intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione, will moderate the panel session “The Other 66%: Appeals Before the PTAB,” a discussion of best practices in ex parte examinations, reexaminations, and interferences at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), at the PTAB Bar Association Inaugural Conference, on March 2, 2017 at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C.

A trained chemical engineer with almost 25 years of experience in intellectual property law, Richards has helped secure and defend the innovations of some of the world’s largest companies and newest technology start-ups. He focuses his practice on patent prosecution and litigation, inter partes and post-grant reviews before the PTAB, and global patent portfolio management. Richards also counsels clients on patent infringement and invalidity investigations, licensing, and trade secret matters.

Richards co-chairs Brinks’ post-grant patent practice group and co-chairs its chemicals, energy, and agriculture practice group. He is a director of the PTAB Bar Association, which was established in 2016 with a mission to preserve and promote the highest professional and ethical standards among lawyers and stakeholders who appear before the PTAB. The organization seeks to foster communication between lawyers, Administrative Patent Judges (APJs), and other officials regarding developments and best practices related to rule-making, procedure, and jurisprudence emanating from the PTAB.

The PTAB Bar Association Inaugural Conference will bring together practitioners, students, and members of the bench for discussions of best practices, recent developments and trends, policy and strategic considerations, and views from the life sciences and technology industries involving PTAB proceedings and parallel litigation.
