Chambers USA Recognizes IP Law Firm Brinks, Ranks Four Attorneys in Top Bands
June 05, 2014

CHICAGO—Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, has again this year received high recognition in Chambers USA's annual rankings of the nation's law firms, once more placing in Band 2 for IP law firms in Illinois.

Chambers USA recognized Brinks for its outstanding reputation in advising clients such as R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Alticor, Amway, American Airlines, Yahoo!, BASF, Brunswick, and Alpine Electronics on a comprehensive range of IP matters, including patent, trademark and copyright law.

The publication also recognized four individual Brinks lawyers for their achievements in the intellectual property category. Senior shareholder and nationally known trademark authority Jerome Gilson ranked in the Senior Statesman Band, while Brinks' immediate past-president Gary M. Ropski ranked in Band 1 for intellectual property law. They are joined by Brinks shareholders William H. Frankel (Band 4), who leads the firm's copyright practice group, and Laura Beth Miller (Band 4), who co-chairs Brinks' International Trade Commission (ITC) practice group.

The Chambers Guides have been ranking the best law firms and lawyers since 1990, and are the preferred directory for the majority of in-house counsel to identify law firms and attorneys, according to a survey conducted by the independent publication International In-house Counsel Journal.

Chambers USA employs a team of investigative researchers to conduct in-depth interviews with lawyers and clients, and develops its annual rankings and commentary based on information gathered about the effectiveness and capability of firms and individual attorneys. Rankings at the state level are based upon the location in which a firm or lawyer practices, regardless of where the clients, deals, and cases take place. Individual lawyers are assessed and ranked in their practice area on the basis of qualities that include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence and commitment.
