Brinks Gilson & Lione's David Fleming Receives INTA President's Award
October 27, 2016

CHICAGO—Trademark attorney David S. Fleming, a shareholder at intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione, has been named one of the recipients of the 2016 President’s Award from the International Trademark Association (INTA), a global, not-for-profit association of trademark owners and professionals.

As INTA stated in the INTA Bulletin on October 15, 2016, the President’s Award “is designed to acknowledge the profound appreciation of the global trademark community to individuals who, over the course of a career in trademark and related IP law, have made a lasting impact on INTA and the Association’s mission.” The Association selected Mr. Fleming based on many contributions over the years, but particularly for his “unmatched dedication” during his tenure as INTA Counsel and leader of the Association’s Governance Review Task Force, and for providing “insightful guidance on a number of first time challenges for the Association. . . .”

Mr. Fleming has been an active leader of INTA for many years. From 2014 to 2015, he served as the Association’s Counsel, its highest volunteer position for a law firm attorney. He also served on INTA’s CEO Search Committee in 2012 and 2013, and on its Board of Directors from 2010 through 2012. He co-chaired the Association’s 2011 Advanced Trademark Symposium, its 2007 Annual Meeting in Chicago, and its 2004 Trademark Administrators Program. Mr. Fleming has also contributed since 1998 as a speaker and as a member of several INTA committees.  He currently serves on the U.S. sub-committee of INTA’s International Amicus Committee.

At Brinks, Mr. Fleming advises clients on complex branding, clearance, licensing, due diligence, and global portfolio issues. He also serves as the firm’s General Counsel, and is a past chair of Brinks’ trademark litigation practice group. He is co-author of the book Trademark Litigation Practice, and frequently shares insights from his career as an intellectual property litigator as a speaker at industry events.

Mr. Fleming is the second Brinks Gilson & Lione attorney to be honored with INTA’s President’s Award. Jerome Gilson, an internationally respected trademark attorney who has practiced for more than 50 years at Brinks Gilson & Lione, served as INTA’s Counsel for three years beginning in 1991, and received INTA’s President’s Award in 2001.
