Ryan Marshall is a seasoned life science patent lawyer with experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical and medical device areas, bringing over 15 years of experience to clients. Ryan is known for his thoughtful and creative approaches to address complex intellectual property issues whether in litigation or in procurement.

Ryan represents a wide array of clients ranging from Global Fortune 50 Companies to start-ups, particularly in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. Ryan’s experience is highly regarded by his clients in global patent portfolio creation and management, pharmaceutical patent life-cycle planning and IP due diligence. Ryan’s experience also includes patentability and freedom-to-operate studies, due diligence reviews, infringement/validity studies, and litigation in intellectual property cases.

He is a frequent speaker on intellectual property topics. Ryan is a recognized leader and has been recognized by Chambers USA as a Band 3 ranked attorney in Utah as well as by Utah Business Magazine’s Utah Legal Elite for several years. Ryan manages the firm’s Salt Lake City office and serves on various civic boards and commissions.

  • Handi Quilter v. Gracewood Management, No. 2:16-cv-1101 (D. Utah 2016-2017). Represented Gracewood Management in patent case relating to automated quilting equipment that settled during the discovery stage.
  • Ultradent Products, Inc. v. Inter-Med, No. 2:17-cv-953 (D. Utah 2017-2018). Represented Inter-Med in trademark case that settled during the pleadings stage.
  • Seirus Innovative Accessories v. Do-Gree Fashions Ltd., No. 2:05-cv-355 (D. Utah 2007-2008). Represented Do-Gree in multiple-patent case and trade dress relating to skiwear, which settled shortly after the client received a favorable claim interpretation ruling, but before the pending motions for summary judgment of non-infringement were decided.
  • Amway Corp. v. MonaVie, Inc., et al. (D. Utah 2008-2010). Represented the defendant/consolidated plaintiff in an action for claims involving a misappropriation of trade secret, a tortious interference with contract, false advertising and related class action for enforceability of contract. The parties settled during pretrial proceedings.
  • DCWV Acquisition Corp. v. Wallcandy, LLC (D. Utah 2011-2012). Successfully moved to dismiss defendant from lawsuit for lack of personal jurisdiction.
