SALT LAKE CITY—Attorney Eric D. Babych of Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the nation's largest intellectual property law firms, has moved to the firm's Salt Lake City office from Chicago.

'We're pleased to welcome Eric to Salt Lake as we continue to grow our intellectual property practice in the Mountain West area,' said Ryan L. 'Eric is a proven patent attorney with excellent experience prosecuting patent applications in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, and his skills complement those of the other attorneys on Brinks' Salt Lake team.'

Babych has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patents in the U.S. and in foreign jurisdictions for clients in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and medical device industries. He advises on portfolio strategy, and prepares licensing agreements and freedom-to-operate, non-infringement, patentability, and invalidity opinions. He has handled patent appeals before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and oppositions before the European Patent Office.

Before joining Brinks in 2012, Babych was an associate with Ladas & Parry in Chicago. Prior to that, he worked as a medicinal chemist at Arena Pharmaceuticals in San Diego, where he researched cardiovascular and neurological diseases and performed complex, multi-step organic synthesis. Babych is himself listed as an inventor on several patents.

Babych holds a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Utah and a J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law.
