Roy E. Hofer Named Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers
CHICAGO – Roy E. Hofer, a shareholder at intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione, has been named “Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year” in the inaugural “Lawyers of the Year” issue of Best Lawyers.
“Lawyers of the Year” lists leading attorneys in high-profile practice areas in large U.S. legal markets. Only one lawyer per practice area per community is honored as a “Lawyer of the Year.” Best Lawyers compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers.
Roy Hofer has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for 20 consecutive years. He has more than 45 years of experience in litigating patent, trade secret, trade dress and related antitrust and contract matters. Still active in district court cases, Mr. Hofer now devotes most of his time to consulting on federal appeal cases, serving as a mediator, arbitrator or special master, and rendering opinions on patent validity, infringement and litigation issues.
Mr. Hofer is a member of the Judicial Performance Commission of Cook County, a 17-member group formed in 2010 to evaluate and provide performance improvement plans to judges facing re-election in Cook County. He has been an author, lecturer and presenter on trial techniques, intellectual property law, and matters of general interest to the legal profession in journals and at meetings of the ABA, AIPLA, Practicing Law Institute (PLI), Illinois Institute of Technology, DePaul University School of Law and John Marshall School of Law. Mr. Hofer is a former president of the Chicago Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association and the Center for Conflict Resolution.
“Lawyers of the Year” were selected because they received particularly high ratings from most of their peers. According to the publisher, the selected lawyers have earned “a high level of respect among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity.”
