Brinks to Sponsor Legal Prep, New Charter School in Chicago Providing Legal-Themed Education
July 31, 2012

CHICAGO – Brinks Gilson & Lione, Chicago’s largest intellectual property law firm and one of the largest IP firms in the country, is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a new charter school, Legal Prep, slated to open this fall in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood. Brinks’s early financial commitment to Legal Prep enables the school to continue building the infrastructure for its facility, which will include a science laboratory outfitted by Brinks.

Legal Prep is a legal-themed college preparatory charter high school and is the first school of its kind in Chicago. Legal Prep will have a student body of approximately 800 students, with a curriculum focused on the skills that all great lawyers possess, including excellent written and oral communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and advocacy. The curriculum will incorporate legal topics into coursework, and students will perform community service as part of their education.

In addition to the firm’s financial support of Legal Prep, Brinks attorneys will serve as tutors, mentors, and guest lecturers at the school. With backgrounds in the research sciences, math, engineering, and technology, as well as expertise in intellectual property law, Brinks attorneys should be valuable educational resources for the students and the school.

“Our sponsorship of Legal Prep reflects the priority that Brinks places on promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession,” said James R. Sobieraj, president of Brinks. “Our attorneys are excited about the prospect of working with Legal Prep students and contributing in meaningful ways to their academic success. We look forward to introducing the students to the fun and stimulating world of intellectual property law, with the hope that one day they will be our colleagues.”
