Brinks Attorneys Gary M. Ropski and Allen R. Baum Named 2013 Lawyers of the Year by Best Lawyers

CHICAGO – Brinks shareholders Gary M. Ropski and Allen R. Baum have been recognized as Lawyers of the Year in the 2013 The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Baum has been named Raleigh Lawyer of the Year in Biotechnology, and Mr. Ropski was named Chicago Lawyer of the Year in Litigation – Patent.

Brinks has a long history of representation in The Best Lawyers in America and was recognized as the top firm in Intellectual Property Law in Chicago and Illinois in 2011. Name shareholders Roy E. Hofer and Jerome Gilson share the distinction of having been listed in Best Lawyers for 22 consecutive years.

Listed in Best Lawyers since 2006, Gary M. Ropski has been named the 2013 Best Lawyers’ Lawyer of the Year in Litigation - Patent in Chicago. Mr. Ropski, who served as president of Brinks from 2006 to 2011, has 35 years of experience as a trial lawyer; he has litigated in every federal judicial circuit in the United States and in almost all of the top 10 court districts for patent litigation. He has participated in more than 100 intellectual property lawsuits and has received accolades for his skill at presenting and rebutting claims in litigation, making complex topics easily understandable by a jury or judge. Mr. Ropski also taught patent and copyright law for 17 years at the Northwestern University School of Law.

Listed in Best Lawyers since 2007, Allen R. Baum has been named the 2013 Best Lawyers’ Lawyer of the Year
in Biotechnology Law in Raleigh. Mr. Baum is the managing shareholder of Brinks' office in Research Triangle Park, N.C., and also chairs the firm’s Chemical practice. Mr. Baum focuses on licensing, due diligence review, infringement/validity studies and patent preparation/prosecution in the areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biochemistry, biotechnology and medical devices. He is the current president and chairman of the board of governors for Certified Licensing Professionals (CLP), a past president of the LES (USA & Canada), and a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Triangle Intellectual Property Law Association.
